Regular VPN Servers ProtonVPN Taiwan server maintenance

Following repetitive upstream networking issues with ProtonVPN servers in Taiwan, the servers are currently in maintenance mode, while upstream provider is investigating on a potential solution. At the same time we are working with other providers for having alternative servers in the same location. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Regular VPN Servers ProtonVPN servers in Portugal in maintenance mode

Due to a technical issue in the upstream datacenter in Portugal, ProtonVPN servers in Portugal are currently unavailable. We are working with the upstream support to restore the situation as soon as possible.

Secure Core Servers Network performance issue with ProtonVPN regular and Secure Core servers in Switzerland

We are investigating a networking performance issue affecting all our regular and secure core servers in Switzerland. We are trying to restore the situation as soon as possible.

Streaming Services Partial downtime of ProtonVPN UK and IT streaming services

We are currently experiencing some ongoing technical issues with part of the UK and IT streaming services. The services which are non-operational include: BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime Video UK, NowTV, ITV, Channel4, Rai TV, and Netflix IT

Partial outage due to BGP Hijacking

There is an ongoing BGP hijacking incident impacting the ProtonMail network. Connectivity to all Proton services is being impacted to varying degrees. Telstra is announcing our 185.70.40.0/24 subnet without authorization.

User data is secure, but some users may have issues connecting to ProtonMail, and some incoming and outgoing emails will be delayed. We have contacted Telstra, but unfortunately because BGP has no verification nor safeguards, the fix must be made by Telstra (this is a critical flaw in BGP which runs the entire Internet).

Regular VPN Servers ProtonVPN servers in Taiwan currently unavailable

Due to upstream hardware issues at the Data center, the ProtonVPN servers in Taiwan are currently unavailable. We are working to restore the situation with the provider as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Streaming Services Partial outage of the UK streaming services available via ProtonVPN

We are currently experiencing some ongoing technical issues with some of the UK streaming services. The services which are non-operational at the time are Netflix UK and Disney Plus UK.

We are currently experiencing some ongoing technical issues with part of UK and IT streaming services. The services which are non-operational include: BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime Video UK, Disney Plus, NowTV UK iTV, Channelt4, and Rai Italy.

ProtonMail Web Application Mailbox outage for some users

Partial outage of all mail services for about 20 minutes due to a temporary database issue. No data was lost and all services were restored within 20 minutes.

General Internet outage affecting various Proton services

It appears that around 10:04 UTC, CenturyLink, the world's largest Tier 1 carrier went down, taking down with it most internet in Europe and many other locations around the world: https://www.thousandeyes.com/outages.

We have done some re-routing to avoid the bad routes, but CenturyLink is so large it's practically impossible to avoid them.

ProtonVPN Clients ProtonVPN servers in Colombia and Peru not available on Android client

After the introduction of the new servers in Colombia and Peru, it has been reported that on certain devices this lead to crashes of the ProtonVPN Android client. For this reason the new servers in Colombia and Peru are currently no longer available for Android. A bugfix is being prepared and will soon be made available.

Users that had their app crashing are advised to erase the cache of the app or to reinstall ProtonVPN, to restore it to a functional status.

Regular VPN Servers ProtonVPN reorganization of Japanese servers

In the next days we will proceed to a reorganization of ProtonVPN servers in Japan to ensure optimal server availability and bandwidth for high speeds and VPN performance. This means that some of our servers are currently under maintenance, while others may be retired. Unfortunately, we can't confirm specific timelines for when these servers will be back online - however we are working to ensure this happens ASAP. Meanwhile, we suggest you try connecting to one of our other Japanese servers.

Due to a large Call of Duty update, ProtonVPN servers in the US are under high load, which is expected. However, performance is unaffected as we have safeguards in place to prevent performance degradation despite the high load. Paying ProtonVPN users will get the Call of Duty updates much much faster than free ProtonVPN users. It is possible to upgrade by logging in at account.protonvpn.com.

Secure Core Servers ProtonVPN maintenance of Secure Core Iceland and Sweden servers

As part of the continuous improvements in terms of security and performance of our infrastructure, for the days of 16 and 17 of July part of the ProtonVPN Secure Core servers in Sweden and Iceland will be unavailable for a limited time.
